Expansion
2026 solo show at Straitjacket
Expansion draws on cracked escarpments shaped under pressure, where rocky outcrops and quiet waterholes become contemplative gateways to inner landscapes. During a month in Western Queensland’s Channel Country, Michelle observed spring floodplains erupt in a flush of wild daisies and billy buttons. The act of repetitive, decisive mark making inspired by fractured rock forms, becomes a pathway to self-expansion through connection with unconscious memory. Flat-topped mesas evoke a sense of grounded stillness, while quiet waterholes invite viewers to peer into their depths, to turn inward toward the stories we carry, some faintly pin-pricked with the shimmer of stars.
